The Tim Dryden Memorial Bursary

It is with deep love and lasting respect that we introduce the Tim Dryden Memorial Bursary, created in memory of Fire Captain Tim Dryden — an extraordinary firefighter, father, friend, and community leader.

Tim had a presence that stayed with you long after he left the room. His commitment to the fire department and to his community ran deep — he didn’t just participate, he showed up fully. Whether it was the Christmas parade, racetrack events, community days, summer BBQs, or answering a quiet call for help, Tim was there without hesitation. Serving others wasn’t an obligation to him; it was instinct.

He carried an easy smile, a contagious laugh, and an energy that naturally drew people in. Conversation came effortlessly — he could connect with anyone, anywhere. And if Salisbury Fire or trains entered the discussion, you could count on animated stories delivered with unmistakable passion and pride.

Tim led with heart. He served with dedication. He loved deeply. And he left a legacy defined by community, commitment, humour, and unwavering pride in those he cared about.

The Tim Dryden Memorial Bursary exists to honour that legacy.

This bursary will be awarded to a Maritime Ignite Fire Academy Inc. participant who is pursuing post-secondary education in emergency services at an accredited institution for the 2026–2027 academic year. The recipient must demonstrate the same qualities that made Tim so special: leadership, integrity, compassion, community involvement, enthusiasm for service, and the ability to connect with others in a meaningful way.

Applicants must submit a written statement explaining why they believe they are a suitable candidate and how they reflect the traits and characteristics Tim embodied. They must also provide proof of acceptance into an accredited emergency services program and be a past participant of the camp (or attending this August). For the inaugural year, the bursary will be awarded to a young person who clearly demonstrates Tim’s spirit and character, even if they were not a previous participant.

This bursary is more than financial support. It is a continuation of Tim’s story. It is an investment in the next generation of emergency service professionals who will serve their communities with the same pride, kindness, humour, and dedication that Tim carried every single day.

Through this bursary, his spirit of service lives on.
